hundreds dead. thousands displaced. the Kenyan economy losing billions

let’s start with the politicians

they’re greedy beyond belief. you can’t imagine a more despicable sight. they all need to be cleansed.. by fire!
these creatures seem to have no feeling of remorse, pity or decency to stop fueling the flames. heartless oafs.
we’re into mediation talks between the opposing parties, & both sides have the audacity to set prerequisite conditions for the peace talks, while the country burns... what nonsense!

...then there’s the media.

for the last 8 years or so, Kenyan media has done nothing but report on politics day after day. they’ve glorified and vilified politicians.
why? politics is the easiest thing to cover... unprofessionalism, mediocrity & laziness across the board. by making politics the centre of attention; governance, law & policy take a back seat. whatever the politicians burp is given so much weight & undeserved importance that perceived governance is solely based on mere utterances by big bellied numbskulls... now we pay the price.

Godspeed Smurfie

Do your magic.

Sir Edmund Hillary

Legendary Mountaineer.
I believe them. Even if you or your scatterbrain cronies felt your continued presidency would keep the country stable & the economy growing at the already marvelous rate, you still have to respect the people's choice. The respect you gained over the last 5 years, you lost in one day. One dishonourable move has turned this great nation into havoc. Voting was obviously a waste of time. Shame. What use is a prosperous nation at the risk of your people dying? Fix this shit.
Raila Odinga, it’s quite likely that you won majority votes this election. It’s also quite likely that you rigged too. However, Kenya deserves peace more than you or anyone else deserve the presidency. You have incited widespread killing and you have made absolutely no effort in preaching true peace to calm your supporters. Borderline treason. You claimed mass rigging, yet you have made no steps to bring forth any evidence or legally challenge the verdict as you should. Now is the time to portray characters of a presidential candidate through civility and peace. Hooliganism, Violence & hatred will get you nowhere. Instead, it’ll kill more.
You're both blinded by pride, and your greed for power is the reason Kenya is bleeding. At this rate, you won’t have a nation left to lead. And to all you fucked up politicians, you need to realize that you’re not bigger than Kenya, and you never will be. We really don't care which one of you pigs is in power coz you'll do jack shit to implement policy & better this nation, just don't mess up our country.
Respect for Kalonzo Musyoka, Kenyans and friends of Kenya speaking out for peace. It’s a start, and we're with you.

Kenya 2007 Elections

i voted.

Bumming

Camping with the boys at Lake Elementaita

Desert Mounts

Thanks Q.

Dynamic Abstraction

Inspired by the beautiful works of guru; Joshua Davis
Under international law, no country owns the North Pole or the region of the Arctic Ocean surrounding it. The five surrounding Arctic states, Russia, the United States, Canada, Norway and Denmark (via Greenland), are limited to a 200 nautical mile economic zone around their coasts. But that's international law... nobody gives a shit about it so these nations are now scrambling for ownership of the north pole.

But why are they doing it? Due to global warming, Arctic ice is fast disappearing. Going by current global trends, the Arctic could have its first ice-free summer by 2040. However, some suggest these nations are racing for oil, fish, diamonds and shipping routes, accelerated by the impact of global warming. So well done you morons, keep pumping those CO2s into the atmosphere so that you can profit from an ice-free arctic.

Remembering Che

Remembering Ernesto Che Guevara

The misfits
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.

They're not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,
disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.

They invent. They imagine. They heal.
They explore. They create. They inspire.
They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones,
we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world,
are the ones who do.

Lewis Glacier is the largest glacier on Mt. Kenya; one of the few remaining tropical sites where glaciers still exist.

If current global warming trends continue, this glacier will keep shrinking until it eventually disappears within 40 years from now. Human activities, fossil fuels, CO2 emissions & the buildup of greenhouse gases have contributed to this regretful problem.
In the last 50 years, Lewis Glacier has shrunk by more than 15,000 cubic metres of ice & reduced by more than half its original area.* Several smaller glaciers on Mt. Kenya have already melted & will never regenerate.

80% of Mt. Kilimanjaro's ice cap has melted in the last century; The Arctic Sea's ice extent has declined by 10% in the last 3 decades; and Glaciers on the Indian Himalayas could virtually disappear by 2035. Let's not say goodbye.

As temperature rises, ice melts and water flows into the seas; Furthermore, ocean water expands in volume with an increase in temperature. The average global sea level has risen up to 20cm in the last decade only. coastal plains, islands, mega cities and river deltas are in danger of being flooded. Weather patterns have already become chaotic, farmers can't do their thing, harvest yields are barely handfuls… we're in trouble.

This is not one of those problems that should be left to the last minute before world leaders realize their kids might never get to taste a pineapple, then start thinking about some damage control. The environment is our home, let's treat it like one.
We're evicting ourselves from land & life as we've learnt to know it. Bring out your scuba gear... its about to get boggy if this global warming shit doesn't stop.

5 years ago, I remember when i was first told that a plane had hit one of the WTC Towers. I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe it.
I tried logging on to cnn.com to find out more. error404, shit. This was real...
It was around 4pm Nairobi time. By the time i got home, another plane had hit the second tower.
Then i watched it all collapse live on TV. It was unreal. Didn't sink in till much later that evening. This was too cruel. Too brutal.
Sadly, the world would never be the same again.

Engineering Module K10K

It's been 3 years...
September 10th 2003, the Fadzter Beam Analysis & R.C. Structural Engineering Application was featured by the legendary Joshua Davis (www.joshuadavis.com) on the Kaliber10000 magazine (www.k10k.net)

Civil engineers design and construct major structures and facilities that are essential in our every day lives. The introduction of software usage in the civil and structural engineering industry has greatly reduced the complexities of different aspects in the analysis and design of projects, as well as reducing the amount of time necessary to complete the designs.
This section offers a full Structural Engineering Program for the Analysis & Design of Reinforced Concrete Beams, developed by Fady Rostom using Macromedia Flash MX. The Module developed analyses forces and stresses in Reinforced Concrete Beams and provides Section & Steel Sizing Designs.
Unlike most Engineering Software Applications out there, which require loads of user manuals and force the users to input syntax commands to be able to achieve results, this application makes use of the ability of Flash & Actionscript to develop user friendly applications with no compromise to effectiveness & accuracy.

I got my little bit of atmosphere going, got a lot of ice. I was cool. I stayed out of everybody else's way, sometimes way out.

Then some eggheads on that uppity third rock -- they think they're so hot because they have ìlifeî -- went and decided I'm not a planet anymore. What's up with that? My life is hard enough as it is.

First of all, it takes forever for me to do a lap around the Sun, and it gets really lonely out here. They tell me that part of the reason I'm not a planet anymore is that some of the time I sneak inside my buddy Neptune's orbit.
What do they expect? I need somebody to talk to out here sometimes. And don't get me started about that mass of junk they call Charon that is supposedly my partner in non-planethood; Charon is dead to me.

Then there's my name. Let me say I was happy enough without anyone else giving me a name. For millions of years, maybe even billions -- time sort of has no meaning out here -- I liked to think of myself as Lex, except for a very brief period of experimentation and confusion when I thought I was Sophia. But that's a long story, and Uranus promised never to talk about it.

Anyway, Lex was short, snappy and just tough-sounding enough to keep unwanted visitors away. I felt like a growling dog with that name, not that I had any idea what a dog was then. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

So then those numbskulls on Earth finally figure out I'm here, and start calling me Pluto. I had mixed feelings; I liked Lex, but I also heard through the microwaves passing by that Pluto was a god of "death" over there. I barely knew what "life" was, but I knew Death kicked life's butt all year long (and the years are really long here). But I nearly fell out of my orbit when I found out a pet dog -- not even a real dog but a cartoon dog -- gets to be called Pluto on their planet. Suddenly Pluto was something cute and cuddly and not tough or threatening at all.

It's bad enough when you're the smallest guy on the playground. With the cartoon dog thing, everyone was making fun of me, even Uranus. I was humiliated. Planets have feelings, too, you know.

So you can imagine how I'm taking this planet thing. Neptune, which used to hang out with me to try to look cool by association, won't even talk to me anymore. I can't take it. The Solar System is the only family I've got.

So for all you Earthlings reading this, I, Pluto, am taking a stand. I'm here. I'm a sphere. Get used to it.

Yours,

Pity, Lebanon was barely getting on its feet from decades of civil war, Syrian occupation & the usual Israeli bullying... Things were looking up. The future was bright. Alas, back to rubble. If Israel really wants to get rid of the Hezbollah militia, the most logical way would be to infiltrate & assassinate, not carpet-bomb a city and hope that one or two amongst the hundreds killed were militants.

Meanwhile, the US is funding and supporting Israel while Iran is backing and supplying weapons to Hezbollah. There's a bigger picture here... I bet if Lebanon had vast reserves of oil, half the US Military would be in Beirut "protecting citizens"... the other half is of course, in Iraq (their oil's not over yet).
I'll tell you what the US is doing though; they're evacuating all Americans from Lebanon. What type of message does this send to the saner half of the world? ..."hey Israel, keep bombing Beirut, all our citizens are clear now... here, try this new missile"

The United Nations? Oh, those guys... well they're just doing their usual thing loafing about & sitting in their air-conditioned offices waiting for orders from above to trickle down their colossal bureaucracy masquerading as an organization. The UN was formed after WWII with the primary purpose of protecting the human race from wars & such tragedies from ever happening again ...not sit in front of microphones & point out that a war is happening... and at most, air concern. Don't get me started on Rwanda, Cambodia or Sarajevo. "Ending conflicts? Upholding peace? Saving Innocent Lives? Sorry, wrong number."

Terrorism is a state of mind. You can't stop terrorism by shelling buildings & annihilating settlements... that just fans its flames and fuels further attacks. You fucking idiots. Both of you, stop being childish dickheads playing a costly tit-for-tat game and put your weapons down!

Not too many years ago, when a "live match broadcast" meant crowds of people would gather round a small transistor radio and listen to their favourite players' names crackle over the afternoon airwaves, football was different. These were the days when a pig's bladder was used to make the World Cup Final's ball. Injured players were slung on a stocky guy's shoulders and piggybacked off the field for treatment... and the fans were well dressed ladies and gentlemen applauding good play from the terraced stands.

It's somewhat different now. Instead of suiting up and wearing their lucky ties, they passionately smear their team's stripes and colours on bare bellies and drape a large flag - in case it gets chilly. The deafening roar of ninety thousand patriotic souls in chant and song sends seismic tremours to far away Richter scales.

Not too many years from now, will they be laughing at our "old-fashioned" teams kits? Our all-equipped motorized first aid carts? Our live TV broadcasts and instant internet video-streams? Or perhaps our latest multi-layered ultra-spherical state-of-the-art balls? I think so.

Whatever happens, whatever changes, I have little doubt that football will still bring the world together... and for three magical weeks every four years, make men forget their wars, worries and women.
